We will travel north through the Sonora Desert, with a rest stop along the way.  Here you can pick up a snack, coffee or just take a break.  Back on our way, there will be views of the amazing Ponderosa Pine forests, the largest in the world, surrounding Flagstaff.  We'll visit the Cameron Trading Post on the Navajo Indian Reservation.  There will be time here to have lunch and to browse among the thousands of Indian crafts.

 

Next, on to the Grand Canyon--voted by the Travel Writers of America as the #1 tourist attraction on earth. With a stop at Yavapai Point Museum, we will continue on to the Bright Angel Lodge and the historic El Tovar Lodge, erected in 1905.  At Grand Canyon Village, you will have time for browsing at the Hopi House, with its Indian arts and crafts, the Kolb Studio’s bookstore, and the Lookout Studio’s gift shops and view platform. 

 

With a quick dinner stop, we will return to your hotel 7:30pm -8:30pm after an incredible day of breathtaking scenery!

We will travel back in time to Montezuma Castle National Monument.  The short path to this prehistoric, Sinagua Indian cliff dwelling will take us along the banks of beautiful Beaver Creek.  Our visit will also include a stop at the visitor center where beads, painted pottery, and a variety of tools used by this fascinating long-lost culture are presented within recreated models to help you understand what the Sinagua Indian life must have been like over a thousand years ago.

  

Next, the amazing red rocks of Sedona!  Here you will find yourself surrounded by such famous rock formations as Bell Rock and Cathedral Rock, and you will experience the serene beauty of Oak Creek Canyon.  The picture-taking opportunities here will be among the best in the world.  Uptown Sedona is a shopper’s delight. Here you will find intriguing art galleries, boutiques and a variety of restaurants.  For the non-shoppers, a side trip will be offered, traveling deeper into this magnificent country.

Our adventure takes us east of the Valley of the Sun along the Apache Trail and into the Superstition Mountains.  We'll visit Tortilla Flat, a quaint Arizona town that boasts a population of 6 people!  There will be some browsing time here.

 

Next, take a ride on Dolly's Steamboat.  Cruise Canyon Lake on this relaxed, 90-minute tour deep within the Sonora Desert.  Look up and you may see eagles in the sky or mountain goats on the surrounding hills.

 

We'll take a short walk into the desert, where your expert guide will point out various desert plants, including the majestic Saguaro Cactus and our state tree, the Palo Verde. 

 

After a stop at Goldfield Ghost Town, we’ll return to your hotel 4:00-5:00pm.

Let’s go shopping!  We’ll head south through the Sonora Desert and views of Tucson.  Walk across the border with us to the town of Nogales, Mexico.  There will be plenty of shopping time here.  Your guide will be along to assist you as you browse through shops selling leather goods, pottery, inexpensive jewelry, knickknacks, and lots more.  Have lunch with us at an authentic Mexican restaurant featuring Mexican, American and fresh fish cuisines.  Enjoy the mariachis before spending even more time shopping.

 

Next, we’ll re-enter the United States and visit the “White Dove of the Desert,” the San Xavier del Bac Mission.  This newly refurbished church was built in the 1700’s and will be a highlight of your tour.

A trip to Tucson will reveal a city and surrounding area of lush Sonoran desert scenery and much of Arizona’s colorful history.  Stop in the El Presidio area for lunch and an interesting glimpse of the heart of Tucson.  We will visit the world famous Arizona Sonora Desert Museum where you will see the plants and animals native to this desert in their natural habitats.  We’ll drive through Saguaro National Park, with its thousands of Saguaro cacti. 

 

A highlight of this tour will be the San Xavier del Bac Mission, the “White Dove of the Desert.” This newly restored Mission dates back to 1692, and is Arizona’s most historic example of our Spanish heritage.

Travel back in time with us through the Sonoran Desert, to the “town too tough to die,” historic Tombstone.  Relive the old west right where the action happened, in the town that was wild, glamorous and boasted some of the most wealthy residents of the West.  This is where Wyatt Earp, Geronimo and Cochise once roamed--a town filled with gambling houses, saloons, and shoot-outs. 

 

We’ll visit the Bird Cage Theatre, the OK Corral (site of the famous 1881 gun battle), Boot Hill and the Courthouse. 

 

There will be time in Tombstone for browsing among the many unique, western theme shops.  Lunch will be at one of the local eateries.

 

We’ll return to your hotel and the 21st Century at approximately 6:00pm after a day of exciting exploration!
